Designer Spotlight: Bruno Cathala
Bruno Cathala is not only a great designer, but also a nice funny guy. He’s the man behind some of my favorite games (including Five Tribes, Mission: Red Planet, Jamaica and 7 Wonders: Duel). He’s also a very busy man, but I did “trick” him into giving a short interview.
Review: BattleCON
Imagine a game of bluffs and mind games but with a physical representation and feel of a 2D fighting game ala Street Fighter. BattleCON is all that and more. It is a sprawling and fantastic sandbox of a fighting game. Any mode or feature you can imagine is available in the system. But to begin with this is a review of the base game of BattleCON: Fate of Indines so let’s get to it!
Review: Deception: Murder in Hong Kong
I finally played enough games to legit a proper review of this hidden role game for 4-12 players by Tobey Ho. This game is published in some countries as CS-Files with the same components by Jolly Thinkers. It plays with a large group in 20 minutes so it might also be labeled as a party game.

Designer Spotlight: Shem Phillips
Shem Philips has designed quite a few games, but probably he’s most famous for his design of the “North Sea” saga games. Three games that are tied thematically together.
Review: Super Motherload
Super Motherload merges tile-laying and deck-building in a fun thematic package. Based on a computer game with the same name, you dig deeper and deeper for more and more valuable minerals on the planet Mars.

RESISTOR_ is a very clever mix of a card, memory game with a bit of deduction thrown in. Like all Level 99 Games, there is a lot of replayability in the game. Sadly, this particular mix didn’t quite hit the … Continued
