I once had a cookie recipe of mine in a contest to be the new fall offering at a local bakery, but boy am I glad it was not as cut throat as the contest that takes place in Pie Town. These bakers are crazy competitive, but I guess that what it takes when you are a pie maker in a town called Pie.
I’m a big fan of ice cream in both senses of the word big, in that I really like ice cream and I’m a big guy. So when I saw a game about making Sundae’s I knew I had to play it! In Sundae Split, designed by Nate Bivins and published by Renegade Game Studios and Foxtrot Games, your goal is to make the best sundae, but watch out for those vegetables…yup, you heard me right, vegetables in a sundae.
The Fox in the Forest is a trick-taking game for two players from Renegade Game Studios and Foxtrot Games, designed by Joshua Buergel. When I first heard of The Fox in the Forest I was immediately drawn to the gorgeous artwork on the cover and wanted to know more. After reading that this was a trick-taking game that actually works with two players I was even more intrigued. I’m normally not too keen on trick-taking games but for a quick filler this could be the one that does it for me.
Collecting dusty ancient books might not sound like a fun activity, nor a fun evocative theme for a board game. But I promise you that Ex Libris is anything but boring. Prepare to collect Fantastical Fictions, Monster Manuals and many more books to become the Grand Librarian.
The board game highlight of my year is without a doubt SPIEL. It always takes place in October, in Essen Germany. This year was my 4th time there, and I was just as excited (if not even more) than first 3 times I went there. So sit back and let me tell you how SPIEL ‘17 was for me.
In Planet Defenders you are controlling 3 robots trying to defend 9 planets from malfunctioning robots. As the theme might lead you to believe, this isn’t a very serious game. But does it have enough interesting decisions to warrant a recommendation?
Clank! is not only the name of the game it’s also one of the core elements of the game. In Clank! you play thieves sneaking into the dragon’s lair to steal the most valuable treasure. But beware if you make too much noise (Clank!) you’ll end up being lunch for the dragon.
