Build your fleet and destroy your opponent. As with most good space themed games or movies, Star Realms: Frontiers puts you in the middle of a battle for space. You command a space force consisting of one or multiple different factions to take on the enemy. Will they bring others from similar factions or unite the remaining factions to stake their dominance?
Heir to the Pharaoh is a two player game with many layers. It is a lush production (especially the Kickstarter version). It has great components and great art. Heir to the Pharaoh is a somewhat light abstract-ish game with a really cool and original bidding mechanism.
I picked up Undercover at Essen SPIEL ’16, right after playing it there. Since then I have already played it numerous times. Undercover is a fun abstract tile laying and flipping game. It has a somewhat pasted on theme about being agents, or double agents, and setting up meetings with other agents. The game takes around 30 minutes and plays (well) with 2 to 4 players.
Designed by the legendary Bruno Cathala, Kingdomino’s title is a clever combination of the words Kingdom and Domino. It’s actually also a pretty good description of the game. You build a kingdom using dominos. There is a bit more to it than that of course. Let’s have a look at it shall we?
13 Days is a game about getting through the Cuba Missile crisis without starting a nuclear war. It is a game about coming out on top in the world opinion after the crisis and it is a game of clever timings and bluffing.
In ZhanGuo you are officials who work for the first Emperor of China. You try to help him with unifying the warring states (ZhanGuo). You have to unify the writing system, create a political system, keep civil unrest under control and at the same time help construct the Great Wall of China to stop the barbarian hordes from invading, and thus by creating security, also help creating the state; the Chinese Empire.
Fungi (or Morels as it also know) is a game about collecting delicious mushrooms and eventually cooking them. Of course, someone else is on the hunt for those tasty treats. Who will be the best fungal chef in the end?
I’d like to introduce you to a card game called A Game of Thrones: The Card Game (Second Edition). This game is an LCG (Living Card Game) which means that the game expands through expansion packs which increase the card pool size for you to build decks with.
Targi is a wonderful two player game about trading among the nomad Tuareg tribes in Sahara. You try to “out trade” the other tribes while at the same time avoid the robbers in the desert.
Imagine a game of bluffs and mind games but with a physical representation and feel of a 2D fighting game ala Street Fighter. BattleCON is all that and more. It is a sprawling and fantastic sandbox of a fighting game. Any mode or feature you can imagine is available in the system. But to begin with this is a review of the base game of BattleCON: Fate of Indines so let’s get to it!
In the post-apocalyptic world of Neuroshima the Moloch have sent a convoy of killer robots to destroy New York. Will they succeed or will the divisions of Outpost soldiers save they day? Take control of either faction in this asymmetric two-player game.
